Fountain Gallery presents: THE LUBINSKY EXPERIENCE:
Judy, Jesus, Junk
March 16-May 3, 2006
Opening Reception: Thursday, March 16, 6-8 pm
New York, NY, March 16, 2006 – Fountain Gallery, located at 702 Ninth
Avenue at 48th Street, announces the opening of The Lubinsky Experience:
Judy, Jesus, Junk, a solo exhibition of mixed media works and photographs by
Dick Lubinsky, curated by June Kosloff.
“I had known that Dick was an artist,” said Kosloff, who is Lubinsky’s niece,
“but only after his death in 2001 did I discover the extent of his work as I
made my way through a Bronx apartment piled high with junk, a storage unit
in Mount Vernon, and three vehicles packed to capacity. Dick created many
self-portraits in which he appears as Jesus, and he took hundreds of
photographs of Judy Zitman, the love of his life, whom he cared for as they
both lived with mental illness. I also uncovered mixed media pieces
illustrating socially relevant themes, such as The Evicted Sharecropper and
Homeless Family in a Van. The amount of work I found was staggering.”
Included in “The Lubinsky Experience” is a short film documenting June
Kosloff’s journey into Dick Lubinsky’s living space and storage unit, both filled
with accumulated junk and artworks yet to be unearthed. For additional
